If you own a Fritz!Box and need to replace it with another device—whether due to a defect or an upgrade—you can back up many of its settings, including the phonebook. However, the phonebook can also be backed up and restored separately from the Fritz!Box settings.
Backing Up the Phonebook
To back up the phonebook, first log in to the web interface of your Fritz!Box by opening your browser and navigating to fritz.box
.
- In the left-hand menu, go to “Telephony” and select “Phonebook”.
- You will see all saved phonebooks along with their contacts.
- At the bottom of the phonebook page, there is a “Save” button. Click it to download an XML file, which can later be imported onto another device.
Restoring the Phonebook
To restore the previously saved XML file, navigate again to the phonebook section of the Fritz!Box web interface.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page, where you will find the “Restore” button.
- Click it and select the XML file.
- You can choose to import the contacts into an existing phonebook or create a new one.
TL;DR
- Open Fritz!Box web interface → fritz.box
- Go to Telephony → Phonebook
- Select the phonebook
- Buttons for “Save” and “Restore” are located at the bottom of the page
