Since late 2024, a new app called “HDMI Link” has been available for the Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest 3, and Quest Pro. This app allows a USB capture card to be connected to the VR headset, enabling HDMI devices like a PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, or other HDMI-compatible devices to be displayed in the Meta Quest on big screen.
These devices are displayed in a dedicated window and can be freely resized to create a “digital cinema screen”, giving you the feeling of playing in front of a giant tv.
Amazon offers various types of capture cards, most of which feature an HDMI input and a USB-C output. For extended gaming sessions, it’s recommended to choose a capture card that includes an additional USB-C charging port. This way, you can charge the Meta Quest while playing, avoiding the 2-3 hour battery life limitation.
Optionally, there are also a few capture cards designed specifically for the Nintendo Switch. These include a built-in docking station with a charging port (note that only the console is charged, not the Meta Quest). In this case, the Nintendo Switch’s docking station is not required, and the console can still be used in handheld mode.
These capture cards are also compatible with other handheld consoles, such as the Steam Deck, GPD Win, or various Android-based retro handhelds like the Retroid Pocket or the Ayn Odin 2.
